Sexual Exploitation
Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a type of child abuse. It happens when a young person is encouraged, or forced, to take part in sexual activity in return for something like love, affection, presents, money, drugs or alcohol.
It can happen to any child or young person, male or female. It might seem like a normal friendship or relationship to begin with. It could be a friend or group of friends, it could be a boyfriend or girlfriend or it could be someone you have only just met.
It can happen online or offline, and without the young person being aware of it.
That’s why it’s so important to look out for the warning signs that someone’s behaviour towards you may not be all it seems.
If you or someone you know is affected by child sexual exploitation, your priority should be to get help as soon as you possibly can.
The person concerned may be worried about not being believed, or being judged. It’s important to remember that child sexual exploitation is never their fault, no matter how or why it happened.
Don’t be Afraid – It is NOT OK for someone to expect you or your friends to do things that you don’t want to sexually.
