The NSPCC has published a news story on online child sexual abuse in the UK. Findings from a Freedom of Information request show a 66% increase in child abuse image offences recorded by UK police in the past 5 years. The news story reports that in 2021/22 Snapchat, was the most commonly named site being used to share child abuse images, mentioned in 43% of cases where this information was recorded. The NSPCC is calling on the government to create a statutory child safety advocate to put children’s experiences at the front and centre of decision making.

Triennial analysis of serious case reviews 2022
 
RiP have put together a series of new open-access resources to support professionals in social work, education, police, criminal justice and health in learning from the analysis of serious cases. These are based on learning from the ninth and final periodic review of serious case reviews, which looked at 235 serious case reviews relating to incidents between April 2017 and September 2019. They can be used in self-directed, team-based, or organisational continuing professional development.

Reform to social care in England

NSPCC Learning has published a CASPAR briefing summarising the government’s proposals to reform social care in England. The briefing sets out proposals contained in three reports currently out for consultation from the Department for Education: Stable homes, built on love: implementation strategy, which sets out the government’s long-term plan to transform children’s social care; Children’s social care national framework, which outlines principles for practice in children’s social care; and Child and family social worker workforce, which proposes new rules on employing agency workers in children’s social care.
